Shaun of the Dead (2004) -

OK….so everyone who knows me knows that I am infatuated with this movie. It is also the namesake of this blog. The Winchester is a pub in London in theis movie.The main character, Shaun, is well meaning but a bit of a loser. He lives with his flatmates Ed and Pete. Ed is endearing as an unemployed sometimes marijuana dealer. Pete has grown up, unlike his perpetually boy like friends. Shaun and Ed spend their free time playing video games and getting pissed at The Winchester every night.

Shaun has a girlfriend named Liz who has also grown up while he has not. She wants more from him and he just can’t seem to get it together. Liz lives with her flatmates, Diane and David, who are a couple, but David has always been in love with Liz and hates poor Shaun.

After mucking up a ”Last Chance” Date with Liz he gets “utterly binned”. Ed and Shaun are onced again getting tossed at The Winchester. On the way home they oblivious to the signs of the comming zombie apocalypse.

Once at home they are dancing around and playing loud Electro. David, perturbed to say the least, puts a stop to their fun and it is revealed that he was bitten by a supposed mugger on the subway.(one of the most hilarious bits in the movie)

The next morning Shaun and Ed are attacked by Zombies. “don’t say the Zed word” For anyone who doesn’t know, in the states we end the alphabet with Zee, In the UK Z is pronounced Zed. Zed=zombie.

Shaun is desperate to save Liz and to prove he is not a loser. After findind Pete is a zombie they take his car to rescue his mum and stepdad, and Liz, Diane, & David.

Shaun and Ed decide that the Winchester is the safest place. They believe that they will have an ice cold pint and wait for it all to blow over. Hilarity, drama, & action ensue.

This movie is classified as ROMZOMCOM but it is soooo much more!! The characters are hilarious, the script is brilliant and there are quite a few scary and sad parts. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! I can see why it might be hard for some people to “get” the humor but I have met so many people in the states who love this movie as well. I have family in England so it wasn’t a problem whatsoever. This dvd is just about on constsnt repeat in my house.

My husband loves it too!

The dvd extras are definately worth watching. The only part I was upset with is that there weren’t more.

Plot Outline: Jealous colleagues conspire to get a top London cop transferred to a small town and paired with a witless new partner. On the beat, the pair stumble upon a series of suspicious accidents and events.

“I was lucky enough to see an early preview. I am a big fan of Spaced and Shaun of the Dead, but wow!!!. I have never laughed so much at a film. Even colleagues that weren’t that impressed with Shaun of the Dead loved Fuzz.

It was non stop comedy, with some action and a little gore but only for comic effect.

Essentially a spoof of big action American cop films set in a small sleepy village in Somerset, UK.

Nicholas Angel (Pegg) is a top cop transferred from London to a place where finding a missing swan is about as exiting as it gets. However, things are about to change as there are a few ‘accidents’. Can Angel and his new partner local boy Danny (Frost) find out what’s happening.

It’s got a start studded cast who all add to the sheer brilliance of the script.

There are so many memorable bits that keep me giggle to myself as I recall them. I cannot wait until it gets general release so I can see it again. I’m sure I missed a few visual gags and film references.

Having it introduced by the stars Simon & Nick was a real bonus. Thanks guys a comic classic.

So, I have to adimit that I couldn’t really pay attention during this movie. I found myself thinking about what laundry needed to get done and that I should probably get our lunches ready. I don’t know what it was. Maybe it was the animation but it seemed like a movie that I should have liked.

There were quite a few funny exchanges between Robert Downy Jr.’s character, Jim Barris, and Woody Harrelson’s character referred to as Luckman. “You are constitutionally incapable of not shuttingthefuckup!” That one really got me! Other than that it just didn’t appeal to me…..sigh….

The film takes place around 2013 and America has lost the war on drugs. The new “It” drug is called Substance D. It is a super addictive psychotropic brain-damaging drug.

Bob Archer[Keeanu Reves character] leaves behind a normal life with his normal family and becomes an undercover narcotics officer that lives with two druggies, Robert Downey Jr. and Woody Harrelson. His identity is even kept secret from his superiors through the means of a scrambling suit that continually blend the faces and bodies of thousands of people. After becoming addicted to D he begins to experience the irreversable effects like schizophrenia. His life and sense of reality are spinning out of control.

Keeanu, like always, is just OK.

My loves in life are as follows; My Husband, Family, and movies.

Ever since I can remember I have been absolutely obsessed with movies. Most of my obsession is centered around horror in general. Zombies in particular. Not to say that I don’t love different genres, infact, I love them all!

My Husband asked me on our first date what my favorite movie was and I couldn’t respond with just one answer. Really, how does one base his/her response? I have many favorites in different categories and then there are directors and styles and sub-categories to consider.

As you can probably tell everyone in my neck of the woods is tired of me going on and on about movies I have seen. With that in mind and with the help of a co-worker I decided to start publishing my reviews online.

I have a Blockbuster Total Access Pass and most of my reviews will come from sed source. Although he is a man of few words I will also let you know what my husband thinks of them.

American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile [Unrated] 102 minutes

Another coming of age story through the AP looking glass. The youngest Stiffler, Erick, Is afraid of graduating from High School a virgin and therefore not living up to the Stiffler legend.

After a very humiliating early scene that results in the death of a family member, and failing to get his girfriend into bed, he gets a “free pass” to do whatever he wants while on a weekend trip to visit his cousin. This Stiffler cousin is in a fraternity from the likes of “Animal House ” and ,of course, shennanigans ensue. Football scrimage against competing “Little People” Frat, Lots of drinking and The Naked Mile.

The Naked Mile is and annual tradition that was started by Jim’s father[not as lovable as he was before] back in the 60′s. It is exactly what it sounds like. Lots of full frontal female nudity. Followed by a huge party where everyone gets layed. There is a scene very reminiscent of the Jim and Michelle love scene from the first AP movie. Young Stiffler listens to his heart and gets the girl. The mysterious cousin Stiffler also gets the girl as well as a few others.

Being the fifth AP to date one would think that it would be totally unwatchable,I have to admit that my Husband picked this one, but I found it to be entertaining to say the least. There were a couple scenes that gave me laughing fits and the new Stiffler was very endearing. He was actually more like Jim than Steve Stiffler. The Stiffler cousin[that has never been mentioned before] that they visit in college was not very good at first but improved by the end. Most of the characters in the movie are not believable but what do you expect from part 5 of any franchise?

I thought it was harmless fun…a good popcorn flick. A few beers wouldn’t hurt either!

The special features were really not note worthy. My Husband enjoyed the movie ALOT!
